A total domination by the Yellow Army as they won by 7 wickets in match number 23 of IPL Season 14. They continue to stretch their victory streak with 5 consecutive wins now.
Chasing a total of 171, the Chennai Super Kings got a dream start, as Faf du Plessis and Ruturaj Gaikwad piled up a century stand for the first wicket. After Gaikwad departed, Moeen Ali came in and played a swifty knock before getting out. He was followed by Faf du Plessis. Suresh Raina and Ravindra Jadeja put up a 25-run partnership which was enough to get the team across the line.
The game would have been done and dusted much earlier if not for Rashid Khan. He picked up all the 3 wickets and put temporary brakes to the CSK run flow. But the rest of the SRH bowlers could not aid his efforts. Khaleel, Suchith and Kaul were all expensive and failed to pick up wickets.
Earlier in the match, SRH having won the toss, decided to bat first. In-form Bairstow departed early and failed to put much of an impact on the game. Captain David Warner and Manish Pandey did stitch up a 100-run partnership but the scoring rate was a bit too slow. Warner departed in the 18th over and soon followed Manish Pandey. It was on the back of the short cameos from Williamson and Jadhav in the end that got SRH to a competitive total of 171. CSK bowlers, although they did not pick many wickets, bowled well to restrict the flow of runs. Thakur proved to be expensive in his 4 overs. Lungi Ngidi picked up 2 wickets and Sam Curran picked one.
A glance at the points table - CSK move back to the top of the table and the SRH are in deep trouble at the bottom. On April 29, Thursday, the MI take on the RR at the Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium in Delhi.
