The people of Ratabari at large have for the longest time made appeals for the establishment of a government degree college in the area. In fact, between Ramkrishna Nagar and Patharkandi Sub-Division, there isn’t any degree college at all. As such, students in the area struggle to pursue higher education, more so in the case of the girl student who often has trouble travelling long distances and so fails to continue her education due to the absence of any degree college in the vicinity. More than a lakh people inhabit the area and they’ve long demanded the setting up of a degree college there.
However, on June 11, President of Karimganj AGP and Anipur Zila Parishad Member Helal Ahmed Khan in the presence of Karimganj MP Kripanath Mallah, Karimganj Zila Parishad President Aashish Nath, former MLA of South Karimganj Aziz Ahmed Khan and Baraigram Zila Parishad Member Ghulam Kuddus handed over a memorandum to State Education Minister Ranoj Pegu demanding the establishment of a Government Degree College at Bazarghat, Ratabari or in the Cachar Sugarmill Campus.
They also discussed the restoration of a proper educational environment at Karimganj College and further appealed for starting Science and Commerce departments at Nilambazar College. Minister Pegu too assured that the demands would be looked into and addressed.
