The Prime Minister’s Office on Sunday announced that 551 Pressure Swing Adsorption (PSA) medical oxygen generation plants will be set up in public health facilities all over the country. As per the PMO, in-principle approval for allocation of funds has been given by the Prime Minister\'s Citizen Assistance and Relief in Emergency Situations Fund (PM CARES) for the installation of these plants. This comes amid the widespread shortage of oxygen all over the country because of the steep surge in Covid cases.
The Prime Minister directed the plants to be made functional at the earliest and added that these plants would serve as a major boost to oxygen availability at the district level. The plants will be procured through the Health and Family Welfare Ministry. Government hospitals will be selected in district headquarters of the states and Union Territories for these plants to be installed. The availability of such in-house captive oxygen generation facilities will address the daily medical oxygen requirements of the hospital and the district as well.
Earlier this year, the PM CARES Fund had allocated ₹ 201.58 crores for installing additional 162 dedicated PSA medical oxygen generation plants inside public health facilities in the country.
