Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, June 4, held a review meeting of the Health Department at his conference room at Janata Bhawan and took stock of the COVID-19 situation in the state. With the drop in the death rate and positivity rate in the state, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his confidence that the situation will improve substantially in the next few weeks.
The Chief Minister directed the department to not allow home quarantine to COVID-19 positive patients of any age group with comorbidity and refer them to institutional quarantine, in order to bring both positivity rate and death rate down.
Stressing over the issue of price rate of private hospitals for COVID-19 treatment, patient friendly pricing was fixed for COVID-19 treatment in both super-specialty and general wards in private hospitals. The rates were decided so that no discrepancy remains in charging the patients for healthcare services in private hospitals in both general and super-speciality wards in this time of the pandemic.
The Chief Minister reviewed the status of Paediatric ICUs, which are being set up in different government hospitals. He also reviewed the functioning of 13 oxygen plants in the state apart from the status of installation of 6 oxygen plants provided by the Central Government to the state.
The Chief Minister also urged to increase daily vaccination to inoculate the maximum number of people at the earliest. He also mentioned that new supply of Covaxin and Covishield is to arrive in the state in the next few days and that the vaccination drive must speed up and cover as many people as possible in the shortest time.
The Health Department is directed to provide loans to the private hospitals without interest so that they can purchase vaccines directly from the manufacturers under the 25 percent quota reserved for the private sector by the Central Government. This would help more people getting vaccinated through the private hospitals, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
