A set of videos are circulating on social networking sites, related to a case of mob attack on Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati at Udali Model Hospital in Assam's Hojai on Tuesday (June 1). Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati was assigned duty at Udali Model Hospital on Monday (May 31).
Dr. Senapati stated that the attendants of a patient consulted him at around 2 PM, saying that the patient had not been to the urinal since morning. "When I reached out to the patient with a catheter, I found him to have expired by then", informed Senapati. Dr. Seuj Senapati then alleged that consequently, the family of the patient started creating chaos in the hospital and soon after that, started assaulting him. "I entered into a room immediately, but it was pushed open by the crowd", explained Dr. Senapati. He further alleged, "The mob dragged me out of the room, and used objects like utensils, hammers, sticks to assault me."
The incident was followed by mutual rage and anger among the netizens and the doctors. Tweets and posts started circulating on social media, protesting against the mob attack on Dr. Seuj Kumar Senapati. Silchar's 'DOCTORS FOR YOU' suspended its tele-medicine service, as a mark of protest against the "barbaric and brutal" attack on Dr. Seuj Senapati at Udali Model Hospital in Hojai. As informed by Dr. Dawipayan Deb, the founder of the initiative, their service shall stay suspended as long as the "culprits" are not arrested.
A tweet against the mob attack, was retweeted by the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, who ordered an investigation into the matter. CM Sarma said, "Such barbaric attacks on our frontline workers will not be tolerated by our administration." He mentioned DGP of Assam Police, G. P. Singh and the official Twitter handle of Assam Police, stating, "Ensure that the culprits are brought to justice."
The other side of the story is not known yet. However, mob attack on a frontline worker or any person whosoever, is not acceptable in any circumstance.
