The Chief Minister's Public Relation Cell, Dispur issued a Press Release on Friday informing that the Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with the representatives of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha and other tea bodies to discuss issues pertaining of wage fixation. The meeting decided to hike the daily wage of tea workers by Rs. 38. Consequently, now the tea workers in Brahmaputra Valley shall be paid Rs. 205, in place of the previous Rs. 167 and tea workers in Barak Valley shall be paid Rs. 183 in place of the previous Rs. 145.

The meeting held at Assam Administrative Staff College on Friday evening decided that in view of the long pending demands of the different tea bodies, the wage of the tea workers will henceforth be hiked to Rs. 205 and Rs. 183 with retrospective effect. The tea workers will get the increased wage with effect from 23rd February, 2021.

The Press Release stated that the Government had earlier hiked the daily wage to Rs. 217, which could not be implemented however, following a court order. Having said that, the Government ensures that it will initiate consultations with the concerned stakeholders to initiate the hike of the remaining Rs. 12.

Minister of Industries and Commerce, Chandra Mohan Patowary; Minister for Tea Tribe Welfare, Sanjay Kisan; Member of Parliament, Pallab Lochan Das; Member of Legislative Assembly, Rupesh Gowala; President of Assam Chah Mazdoor Sangha, Paban Singh Ghatowar; Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, Samir Kumar Sinha and several other representatives of the tea groups, including other senior officials were present at the meeting.
