In a notification released on May 12, all Cabinet Ministers in the Assam Assembly have been assigned districts whose Covid situation they are to monitor. Their role is to monitor the trend in the number of Covid cases and the positivity rate in the districts. They must also assess the adequacy of healthcare facilities in terms of hospital beds, manpower, ICU facilities, medicines, oxygen availability, ambulances etc. to meet the present and anticipated number of Covid cases. They must monitor the compliance of Covid related restrictions in the districts. The Ministers must guide and support the district administration by coordinating with the Department of Health and Family Welfare and others. Finally, they must keep the Chief Minister and the Minister for Health and Family Welfare in the loop at all times.
The districts of Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi have been assigned to Parimal Shuklabaidya, Minister of Environment and Forests.
The Chief Minister himself, Himanta Biswa Sarma will be looking after Majuli. Ranjit Kumar Dass has been allotted Barpeta, Bajali and Bongaigaon. Atul Bora has been assigned to Jorhat and Golaghat. Urkhao Gwra Brahma has been allotted Kokrajhar, Chirang and Baksa. Chandra Mohan Patowary will be monitoring Nalbari, Kamrup and Udalguri. Keshab Mahanta has been allotted Nagaon and Hojai. Ranuj Pegu will be monitoring Dhemaji and Lakhimpur. Ashok Singhal will be looking after Sonitpur, Darrang and Biswanath. Jogen Mohan will be monitoring West Karbi Anglong, East Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao. Sanjay Kishan has been assigned to Tinsukia and Dibrugarh. Ajanta Neog is responsible for monitoring Dhubri and Lakhimpur. Pijush Hazarika will be looking after Morigaon and Goalpara. Finally, Bimal Bora has been entrusted with the responsibility of monitoring Sivasagar and Charaideo.
